This little sloping garden had been left to last in the house renovations and at first the owners wanted to just replace the damaged deck and put in a bench.
I managed to persuade them to land-grab the additional metre at the back of the garden in line with all their neighbours, to enlarge the lawn area and to take the deck right across the garden width, and to take out a very sorry looking tree at the back left. The resulting garden feels much larger and wider and airier.
We kept the design simple with a large bench and a composite deck, with stepped raised beds. We levelled the lawn and kept the planting low so that the view from the kitchen to the back is uninterrupted, helping to make the garden feel spacious. Planting is also simple with lavenders and verbenas and an olive tree to replace the sad fruit tree previously there.
Client comment “We really love our garden- it is my little haven. Looking at it from the kitchen makes me happy! “
