The clients knew precisely what they wanted but not how to achieve it.
Prior to landscaping the garden seemed dark and unloved. A neighbouring building encroached on the space and overwhelmed it. There was a beautiful olive tree which was the only thing really worth keeping.
By creating a raised paved platform at the back, and rendering and painting the wall in a soft grey, the encroaching wall was diminished. A box hedge below further softened it.
The olive tree was pruned through to let in more light and give it a better shape, and a large bed was created beneath it, filled with bulbs, perennials and flowering shrubs.
Four further beds were created containing an acer and evergreen climbers, amongst other things.
The decking was made from Balau wood, with a matching fence to the left, and a bench and table top (designed by the client) all matched. Lighting under the bench and in the hedge at the back provides enough light for night time entertaining.
The resulting space is modern with clean lines, feeling more spacious and light.
