World War One garden

The gardening gladiatorial arena that is Chelsea Flower Show is set to show case two of my previous employers next year in 2014 – and both will be battling it out for the Best in Show as well as the People’s Favourite.

Del Buono Gazerwitz Landscape Architects are no strangers to Chelsea. I worked with them on their 2008 entry for Daylesford Organics which featured a poppy strewn wheat field and a beautiful walled kitchen garden of vegetables and herbs in raised beds of woven wicker.

Next year they are designing the Telegraph garden, which has a much coveted spot on the Main Avenue, and their entry in their words will be “an Italian garden for the modern era, combining some principles of Italy’s great historical tradition”.

The other contender is a newcomer to Chelsea Charlotte Rowe and her garden inspired by the war torn landscape of the Western Front,
set to coincide with the centenary of the First World War next year.

It will be trowels at dawn. Let battle commence!

(I shall be as impartial as possible..)
